Top 2027 Guard/Wings Seen at Wootten Camp
BY:Justin Matcham

I was in Las Vegas a few weeks ago for the Boys Wootten 150 Camp. The gym was packed with national talent, these were the guards and wings who looked the best in the older group.

Jayden Wilkins | Southeastern Prep | 2027 | Guard | 6’2

Did a very good job throughout the day of balancing scoring and playmaking in a setting where most people were just looking to get their own. A strong ballhandler who shifts gears well with the ball, he was able to get to the rim for tough finishes, has good touch around the rim and looked comfortable playing through contact. His awareness stood out, looked good reading defenses and tried to make right play, regardless of what it was. Made good reads on extra passes, kickouts, and set multiple screens to try to get things going on offense.

Anderson Diaz | Cold Hearts (OTE) | 2027 | Guard | 6’1

Diaz’s skillset translates perfectly to camp settings, and he went to work when the ball was in his hands. A shifty athlete with a very good handle, he broke down just about any defender who tried to get in front of him and got into the paint whenever he wanted. Has very good touch in and around the paint, finished in a variety of ways and made plays for himself and others in transition.

Josiah Nance | Notre Dame | 2027 | Guard | 6’4

A big guard with some real juice as a shot creator, the flashes he showed throughout the camp were very intriguing. Has a strong first step and absorbs contact well as a driver, was able to get past guys off the dribble and get into the midrange for a few tough buckets, also showed he can finish at the rim from difficult angles. It was a tough setting for most guards to showcase much when the ball wasn’t in their hands, but the talent was evident whenever it was in his.

Jomar Bernard | The Villages | 2027 | Wing | 6’7

The size and energy that Bernard brings to both ends of the floor stands out every time he steps on the floor. A very good athlete with a high motor, he consistently made plays on the defensive end and was aggressive on offense, showing off what continues to be a more and more well-rounded skillset. A reliable set shooter from the perimeter, he also looked good getting downhill as a driver for athletic finishes at the rim.

Clyde Walters | RWE (OTE) | 2027 | Wing | 6’6

The size and feel that Walters possesses make him one of the more underrated players in his class nationally. A good athlete with real on-ball ability, he was at his best running the floor with or without the ball and making plays as both a scorer and passer. He was comfortable playing through contact and does a good job of maintaining balance when he’s in the paint, has great touch and was able to find the open man when he either drew help or a defender failed to get back into the play.

Reese Alston | Second Baptist | 2027 | Guard | 6’3

The fast tempo that Alston plays with never changes, regardless of the setting or who he’s going up against. He looked to attack in transition and get downhill in the halfcourt repeatedly, getting to the rim whenever he wanted and showcasing his athleticism and body control as a finisher. Hit a couple of tough looks away from the rim and showed a few flashes of his playmaking feel, was one of the more productive players in the building based on his motor alone.

Duece Hunt | Duncanville | 2027 | Guard | 6’0

One of the smaller players in the 2026/27 age group, Hunt still managed to find ways to be productive thanks to his skill level and willingness to play with physicality. Was doing most of his damage early from the perimeter, using twitchy moves to create separation from defenders before getting to pullups, hit multiple looks off of movement and was scoring over good contests. Pushed the pace in transition and was able to get to the rim for a couple of easy ones.

Josh Leonard | Wilson | 2027 | Wing | 6’6

Leonard’s strength and athleticism are on a different level than most players, and the toughness he brings as an interior scorer and defender was on full display. Was catching lobs in transition and getting to the rim off of straight-line drives in the halfcourt, did a great job of initiating and playing through contact to go through defenders and showcased elite body control in the air around the rim. Another player who consistently thrived in the more open style of play throughout the camp.
