PRO16 Finals Omaha: Elite Eight Preview
BY:Ethan Piechota

After months of high-level play, eight 17u teams remain on the PRO16 League circuit and prepare to battle it out in Omaha, Nebraska this weekend at Iowa West Fieldhouse. The quarterfinal matchups include 1Family (FL) vs. Tulsa Hawks (OK), AAO Flight (AR) vs. Select Basketball (ID), Nebraska Supreme (NE) vs. Las Vegas Knicks (NV), and BTI United (CA) vs. Omaha Elite (NE). In this article, you can find full breakdowns of the teams, their players, the matchups, and some – just for fun – game lines and picks to keep an eye on.

1Family PRO16 (11-1) vs. Tulsa Hawks PRO16 (7-5) | 1Family (-13.5)

One of the most dominant teams not only on the PRO16 League circuit – but across the country – all year long, 1Family is not only deep and chalked full of high-major talent, but has an impressive group of prospects that are collectively playing their best basketball right now. The Tulsa Hawks started the year off slow, but with a few crucial additions back in April, have completely turned a corner, and actually played 1Family very close in a late-April matchup in Wichita.

First for 1Family, 2024 6’10 five-star Asa Newell is the headliner prospect, putting together a phenomenal season and showcasing his translatable skillset to the next level. On the perimeter, 2024 6’5 Isaiah Brown (Florida commit), 2024 6’6 Isaac Celiscar, 2024 6’6 Kameren Wright, and 2024 6’2 PG Lorenzo Cason Jr. all impact winning in their own, unique way. Brown has been ultra-productive on both ends of the floor, Celiscar does all the little things to help his team win games, Cason holds now 22 (!!) division one offers and can get downhill at will, and Wright’s stock has recently soared with his ability to shoot it and initiate offense as a big guard. At the guard spot, 2024 6’0 Zion Mitchell and recent addition 2024 6’5 Ryan Blount are two more names to watch. Recently, 2024 6’6 Marc Angueki has been playing his best basketball of the year.

For Tulsa, many didn’t expect this team to even be in this position a couple of weeks ago, but excellent coaching and the play of 2024 6’2 PG Chiante’ Tramble and 2024 6’6 Chris Mason have lead this team to the Elite 8. Tramble’s approach and demeanor elevate the level of everyone around him, and Mason is one of the most powerful and efficient interior finishes around the rim in the league. On the wing, 2024 6’6 Darian Grant is a lockdown on-ball defender, and 2024s Carter Benton and Titus Miller can both space the floor with solid positional size. Playing up a year and having a really strong season, 2025 6’0 Clyde Davis has pull-up shooting gravity and the ability to score on multiple levels and could swing the game for his team if he gets hot.

AAO Flight PRO16 (12-0) vs. Select Basketball PRO16 (7-5) | Select Basketball (-2.5)

Everybody remembers the month of April for AAO Flight. A league-best and perfect 12-0 record, a mercy-rule victory over then-undefeated 1Family, and the explosion of 2024s Layne Taylor and Ty Robinson onto the national stage. Since then, Taylor’s recruitment has exploded and Robinson committed to FAU, but the team as a whole hasn’t been playing their best basketball since. On the other hand, Select is one of the deepest teams on the circuit and executes at a super high level, and is currently in the midst of playing its best basketball, routinely handling teams last weekend in Houston.

First, for AAO, 2024 5’10 PG Layne Taylor is the name everyone knows, asserting himself as one of the best passers in the country, elevating the level of everyone around him with his confidence and approach towards winning basketball, and routinely finding ways to win games late. In his lone matchup with Select this year, Taylor hit a game-winner to knock off Select at the buzzer. 2024 6’4 Ty Robinson is a knockdown shooter off the catch and embodies toughness, has strong instincts as a passer, and can attack a closeout to create an easier shot. Outside of the two, 2024 Jadyn Haney is a versatile defender that can take Taylor off the ball and initiate the offense, 2024 6’5 Ornette Gaines is a scalable defender that does the dirty work on the interior, and 2024s Owen Dehrmann and Mason Simpson have spaced the floor at a high level all year long. 2024 G BJ Woodruff is an interesting name to watch with his ability to initiate offense and knock down tough shots.

For Select – this team is as fun to watch as any AAU team I can remember, and it’s not necessarily because they throw down rim-shattering dunks in bunches or excel in transition. This team executes at a college level, running their sets, taking pride in setting screens, and moving off-ball with a purpose. 2024 6’4 G Liam Campbell is a high-major prospect with the offers to reflect, playing off two feet and scoring on multiple levels with his ability to create in tight spaces. On the wing, 2024 6’5 Kase Wynott and his recruitment are about to explode, shooting it off movement from deep, winning with his toughness defensively, and creating his own shot while attacking moving defenses. All year long, 2024 6’11 Chance Winter has been rock-solid on the interior all year long, and 2024 wings 6’6 Carson Smith and 6’5 Berrett Wilson do all of the little things to swing a game on both ends of the floor.

Nebraska Supreme PRO16 (9-3) vs. Las Vegas Knicks PRO16 (3-9) | Nebraska Supreme (-1.5)

Nebraska Supreme, early on in the year, burst onto the scene and with their collection of prospects and roster-balance won a lot of games in early April. Since then, the team lost 2023 6’9 Bangot Dak to Colorado – arguably one of the best rim protectors and play-finishers on the circuit. However, behind strong guard and wing play, the team finds themselves in the Elite 8. On the other hand, the Knicks and their coaching staff will be the first to tell you they didn’t play to their standard throughout the regular season, finishing a 17u worst 3-9. Nevertheless, the team knocked off two really talented teams in Houston behind a JQ Williford offensive explosion and find themselves in the Elite 8.

Nebraska Supreme has been headlined by 2023 standout Bangot Dak all spring, and he earned a scholarship to Colorado where he is now on campus. Many thought that Supreme would not be in this position due to the loss of Dak, but elite shooting mixed with a group that has played together for years of chemistry has earned a trip to the Elite Eight. Marcus Glock was the leader in Houston where he displayed a pure shot from distance with length at the guard position. Landon Pokorski and Eldon Turner head their two-point guard system, and they are both elite playmakers that are recognized as the top two-point guards in all of Nebraska. The red-hot shooting is all over the court, but Alex Wilcoxson is their main guy, shooting 14-24 from beyond the arc in Houston. To make up for the size loss of Dak, Antallah Sandlin’el stepped up big time by shutting down interior players while spreading out the floor offensively. Supreme won their only matchup against the Las Vegas Knicks, but it is safe to say that this one will be different. – Aidan Wheelock

For the Las Vegas Knicks, team has the two best players on the floor heading into this matchup. On the interior, 7’0 2024 Pape N’Diyae is a future NBA talent, exploding onto the scene this year with his outlier physical tools, movement skill, and overall upside. 2024 6’7 Ja’Quavis Williford joins N’Diyae as a fellow high major talent, averaging 29 PPG last weekend in Houston on 52% shooting from three-point range. Williford will carry the load offensively for his team as a shot-creator and be relied upon to knock down timely shots to keep his team afloat. 2023 6’0 PG Eli Burney is as tough as they come as a lead guard and 2024 6’5 Mike Bartlett is a versatile, well-rounded wing that doesn’t need a plethora of touches to impact winning. The loss of 2023 6’6 Keenan Bey will be felt this weekend, but look for the Knicks to rally and continue their deep postseason run.

BTI United PRO16 (6-6) vs. Omaha Elite NXT (15-1) | BTI United (-5.5)

You can make the argument that both of these teams have made pretty improbable runs to be where they are currently. BTI United struggled and was inconsistent throughout the year, but behind the play of 2025 6’8 Nik Khamenia find themselves in the Elite 8. Omaha Elite has been the best NXT team all year long, finishing 15-1 with their lone loss to Nebraska Supreme PRO16 by 5 points. With a contrast of style and roster construction, this is one of the most intriguing first-round matchups on paper.

The team with the best player in this game – 2025 6’8 Nik Khamenia – is a heliocentric primary offensive engine with the ability to score on all three levels and carry the load offensively for his team. He’s a high-major prospect and one of the best in the country in his class. Alongside Khamenia, 6’6 Peyton Smith is a force on the interior that is tough to be stopped with his spatial awareness, strength, and skill and 2024 Ryder Mjoen has been playing his best basketball of late. Unquestionably, BTI will miss the production of 2024 PG Isaiah Johnson in this game but still come in as the favorited side.

Omaha Elite is one of the deepest times on the entire circuit, relative to any age and to any classification. The guard play of 2024 6’1 Daleron Thomas and 2024 6’1 Mynor Strong has been massive all year for this team and the driving force behind their success. The two apply tenacious on-ball pressure defensively, can playmake and create for others in the halfcourt, rack up paint touches offensively, and create off the bounce. 2024 6’5 Devin Holmon is a productive wing, and 2024 6’9 Quientan McCafferty is an intriguing name with perimeter skill and size as a floor-spacing big man. This team defends, forces turnovers, gets out in transition, and has a number of creation options offensively. This will be a battle.
